How To Sell Anything

Have you ever wanted to sell something, but was unsure how to do it?

You're not alone.

Often times many of us find ourselves feeling frustrated that we create something that we want to share with the world but no one seems to be paying attention.

And when we look back at all of the energy and time (probably even money), we wonder if what we did was worthless...

I've been there before.

Even as a marketer sometimes I wondered how I was going to be able to sell things, but I listened to a man named Ray Edwards who truly helped provide me insight into how to sell things.

You see oftentimes we think that why something is not selling is because the product wasn't quite right, the business was bad, the economy was terrible, etc... ,but when in reality it was probably more of a message presentation problem, otherwise known as "copy".

Once I realized this and made changes in my ads, landing pages and such, I began to see how I was truly able to help my clients improve.

And what once was thought to be a potentially failed product offering, started to drive leads quickly.

How I was able to make that change was using Ray Edwards P.A.S.T.O.R copywriting formula to help me.

P.A.S.T.O.R stands for

  • Problem or Pain
  • Amplify the Problem
  • Story, Star, and Solution
  • Testimonials
  • Offer
  • Response

In this podcast, we highlight the benefits of how this formula can immensely help you and go through each of the steps to make it easy to understand.

What Creating Daily Content Doesn't Mean

What Creating Daily Content Doesn't Mean

In the month of August, I have sought to create daily content every day. Thankfully, I can say that I have been successful in pursuing that goal.

Create Content Every Day

However, a good follow-up question to this would be to ask, "well where is it? There hasn't been a daily post."

Correct.

Creating content every day does not mean you have to publish a post every day, it just means you need to be working on creating something every day.

I know some will disagree with me, but when you have a full life already you may not have time to complete something every day.

This mindset can be freeing.

There is nothing wrong with posting every day. As a matter of fact, I look forward to a season of my life where I can do that or at least give it a go.

In the meantime, I know the quickest way to get there is to keep on creating every day.

How To Create Content In The Car

How To Create Content In The Car

This Tuesday, I have decided to make Tuesday's tool Tuesdays as much as possible. So this Tuesday I would like to talk about the tool I'm using to create this post, Dragon anywhere. So this Tuesday I would like to talk about the tool I'm using to create this post, Dragon Anywhere for iOS.

How To Create Content In The Car

How To Create Content In The Car

Dragon anywhere is an app on iPhone that allows me to dictate content anywhere I have my iPhone.

For example, this post is being dictated on the highway. That's right, I'm creating this post in the car while I travel.

Yes, this is an amazing world.

To give some more details as to how I am doing this, I should point out that I am using one other piece of technology besides my phone and the app though.

I am using the  Rode Smartlav  microphone as a way to dictate clearly in a somewhat hands-free environment.

The Smartlav is not a must but it can be very helpful with the keeping your voice clear with the sounds of traffic around you.

I should also note that the dictation isn't 100% accurate, but it is really close. You will have to go back and do some editing.  However, doing some editing versus typing the content first can be much quicker.

I estimate this will save me probably at least an hour every single week.

I love it.

Once again, here are the links below for the items mentioned that I use to dictate in my car.

Here's to tool Tuesday and to making your life better cheaper and or faster.

How To Easily Install The Facebook Pixel In 7 Steps

How To Easily Install The Facebook Pixel In 7 Steps

How To Install The Facebook Pixel
How To Install The Facebook Pixel

When it comes to digital advertising, Facebook is an amazing platform.  But one of the things that has stood out the most to me, is the ability to use the Facebook pixel.

Actually, having the Facebook pixel installed on your website and landing pages is something you should do even before you launch any facebook ads.

This pixel (or code) can deliver amazing opportunities that can allow you to reach out to those that have expressed interest in you and your business.

But one of the most common issues people state is how do I even get started with it.

7 Easy Steps

This post is a walkthrough on how you can start to implement this right away.

Facebook Ads Manager Pixel
Facebook Ads Manager Pixel
  1.  Go to your Facebook Ads Manager and in the top right click the menu link to view all of your options and select "Pixels".
  2. Facebook Create A PixelFacebook Install A Pixel
  3. From there you will see the button to create a Facebook pixel. Click it, name your pixel and then click the install pixel now button that follows.
  4. Once you see all of the code, copy it and log into the backend of your site.
  5. Install the code in the <header> </header> section. Don't worry if this does not make sense to you. Pixel Your Site Plugin
    1. If you are using WordPress, I highly recommend the plugin by PixelYourSite. Search "PixelYourSite" in the  plugin search bar then install and activate the plugin. It will walk you through the rest of the process.
    2. Facebook Pixel Google Tag Manager
    3. If you are using Google Tag Manger on your website, just add in a separate HTML tag to fire on all pages. (note: be sure to hit publish button after you have added the new tag)
    4. In Squarespace use their header code injection walkthrough from their help section.
    5. If none of the above options work, look for where ever you can access the <head> </head> section of your website and then paste in your Facebook pixel there.
    6. Facebook Pixel Manager
    7. After you have installed it, wait an hour and check inside the Facebook Pixel Manager to see if your pixel is active. It should look something like this.
    8. Custom Audience Setup
    9. Finally, create a custom audience of all of the traffic that is coming to your website. There are more things you can do with your Facebook pixel, but I would always recommend people create a custom audience of all of the visitors coming to their website. Below is the setup I typically implement.
    10. Click the "Create Audience" button and you are ready to go.

Like I said before, this is an initial setup of the Facebook pixel, but once installed it will allow you to create even more Facebook audiences that you can use to be even more targeted and effective in your advertising.

To begin with, it will allow you to be tracking people that have already shown interest in what you are offering, so when you want to promote something on Facebook, you already have a group of very targeted people you can market to.

Happy Marketing!

Do you wish there was a way for you to find valuable content to share with people following you?

Or do you struggle with finding time to not only to find content that you can share with people in your desired niche, but also remembering to post it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTasMQX4yB4&feature=youtu.be

In today's episode, we review the tool Quuu (and no, that is not a misspelling) which helps to solve both of these problems.

Quuu is a cloud-based platform that hand curates content for influencers to publish (automatically) to their community based on preselected categories of content.

And the best part is that it integrates with Buffer, so it publishes the content for you automatically.

Do you ever find yourself wanting to do something, but you still just don't seem to do it?

Do you struggle with procrastination?

In today's first episode of 168 TV we unpack the three reasons you procrastinate and how to overcome them

I admit in the video that it took me too long to record this video and kick off 168 TV.

My goal with this video is to get over my fears of producing this content and to hopefully encourage you to stop procrastinating in your own life and move forward on the things you know you need to.

Success Is Never Owned, It Is Rented

Success Is Never Owned, It Is Rented

Just because you reached a new level in your life does not mean you are done. Success takes work... it just does.

And the work truly never ends.

Optional: Listen to post below

Success Is Never Owned It IS Rented &The rent is Due Every day
Success Is Never Owned It IS Rented &The rent is Due Every day

This can be a hard concept to admit. In a world of instant gratification there is a big desire to have an overnight success and then just live on the rewards of that success as we ride off into the sunset.

If it only it was that easy...

Recently, I wrote a post where I explained that I had experienced a major success and felt like I had made it. It seemed like things were going my way and all of my hard work had paid off and I took my foot off the gas.

If I could go back in time, I would have told myself to have keep pushing forward. That the success I had was due to my desire to work hard and if I wanted to continue having successes I would need to go right back to work and to continue to provide value to my audience.

I needed to realize that "Success is never owned, it is rented and the rent is due every day."

The quote above comes from Rory Vaden's book Take the Stairs which is now in my top 10 most recommended career and business books for anyone to read.

This phrase has made me self-aware of the fact that you and I are going to have to continue to work every day for the rest of our lives, if we want to continue and maintain success.

So instead of viewing work as an unnecessary evil, view it as an ongoing opportunity to further better your life.

There will be many people that don't want to do the work or start to do the work and fade in the end.

Instead, commit yourself to consistently showing up every day to work towards your success. And when you have a high point of achievement, remember the sun will rise again tomorrow and the rent will be due once again for the continued opportunity to be successful.

Cheers... and here's to your daily work.

Comfort Is Decline

Comfort Is Decline

Have you ever felt a regret of wishing you would have kept working after a big win in your life? If you are anything like me, you can probably think of a time in your life where this is true. Or maybe you are feeling that right now?

Optional: click below to listen to post.

Comfort Is Decline
Comfort Is Decline

As it turns out you and I are not alone either.

One of the most popular YouTube Vloggers Casey Neistat (like 1 million views per video posted) stated in a interview recently that he regrets not continuing to work after he had produced a series with his brothers for HBO.

Watch the snippet below to hear this in his own words.

[Raw language]

As Casey explains, he wishes he would have continued to produce videos, but he admits he felt like he had made it to the big time and coasted for the next 2 years.

It is something he and I share in common.

3 years ago I was on a stage at one of the biggest events in the blogger, vlogger and podcast industry that existed at that time. It was something I dreamed of being a part of and it was awesome.

I walked around with my "Speaker" badge, shook hands, connected with others and even celebrated with other great speakers in an incredibly fancy private lounge at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.

I watched the water spray up from the massive fountains as we all sang along to a Pavarotti song that was playing. It was epic.

It was a great success which made me feel like "I had made it"....

Unfortunately, I became comfortable and like what the Casey stated "comfort is decline".

It has taken me a long time to understand what all happened in my journey as I sat back and wondered why things were not continuing to happen the way that I thought they should, but now I get it.

I was in decline.

However, in 2016 I finally understood some great words of advice from the insightful author Rory Vaden that "Success is never owned, it is rented and the rent is due every day."

So my challenge to you is to not get caught up in the moment after you feel like you "made it".

Do not just put your feet up and get comfortable. Every day is a new day and you will need to continue to work in order to make progress and have more success in your life.

094 - 5 Background Music Sites That Will Help Keep You Focused

094 - 5 Background Music Sites That Will Help Keep You Focused

For many of us we suffer from some sort of Attention Deficit Disorder where we can get disctracted very easily.

5 Music Backgorund Sites That Help You Focus
5 Music Backgorund Sites That Help You Focus

So in a world where you need to focus get stuff done, becoming easily distracted is not a good trait to have.

Thankfully, I found 5 websites that can help you stay focused on what needs to get accomplished by using background music/noise to quiet your distracted mind.

This may sound completely crazy, but I have had many individuals thank me greatly for telling them about these websites.

  1. Brain.fm - The website is in Beta, but the creator behind asks you a series of questions that help create a playlist to help you focus for whatever mood you are in.
  2. rainymood.com - For those of us that like the sound of the rain (aka me), this is a website that plays the same rain track over and over again. However, it never gets old and if you continue to do work with it, you will begin to somehow just focus right away was soon as you hear the first raindrops coming down.
  3. Coffitivity.com - I do not use this site very much, but Coffitivity does a great job of providing tracks of a coffee shop background that come people truly prefer. If you work alone, sometimes it can be nice to get the noise of others around you even if you are just in your pj's sitting at the computer at 2 am.
  4. Noisli.com - I need to meet the founder of this site as they created a background nature music tool that allows you to mix your own personal nature sound. Want to hear the leaves blowing while also hearing the cracking of a fire, why not? Noisli can help you with that.
  5. Calm.com - This is maybe more of a relaxing, ambient music site, but at times when your day can get extremely crazy, this website can help you relax fro a little bit, before jumping into the grind again.
  6. FocusAtWill.com - This is one of my most relied background music tools as they have options for everyone. They truly embrace the science of creating the right tracks to help keep you focused, while understanding that it is not the same for everyone.

093 - Three Tips To Stay Connected With Your Spouse

093 - Three Tips To Stay Connected With Your Spouse

With it being February, I thought it would be fitting to do a quick podcast on som tips to help you stay connected to your spouse or significant other for that fact.

3 Tips To Stay Connected To Your Spouse
3 Tips To Stay Connected To Your Spouse

Often times when you are working hard at something, you can become distracted and your spouse/family may get left behind in some cases.

You may not be anywhere near becoming divorced, but without conscious awareness of how your mate feels, you may slowly start down that trajectory.

That isn't to say that you should never have fights, but taking precautions can truly payoff in the long run.

3 Tips To Help you Stay Connected

Although there are many more out there, here are 3 tips to help make sure that you spend time together.

  1. Block Off Your Calendar For Each Other. This is one of the best ways to allow you to say no to other things and to mentally focus on each other. My wife and I use a shared Google calendar to help with this process, just to make sure that we do not commit to something instead of each other.
  2. Schedule Date Night. Using the calendar concept in #1, make time to have some nights off with each other that are really just about having fun. Even if you are on a tight budget, you can still find ways to make this a possibility.
  3. Plan For Bigger Getaway's Together. Whether it is looking forward to a relaxing vacation far away in some tropical place or just having a weekend away together, making time for extended getaways for just the two of you is very important.

Ultimately, you need to make time for each other and utilizing some of these tips can greatly assist you in the process.

Today's episode content is very important.

What Does Success Look Like
What Does Success Look Like

I mean it. It's crazy important.

Before you start getting ready to start investing a ton of money and effort into marketing your business, you need to have this question answered,

"What Does Success Look Like"

Having this questioned answered will be extremely valuable.

It will save you money, time and a lot of effort.

So take some time to answer that question regardless if you are already marketing something or just about too.

It will help give you great clarity and a defined direction of what you want things to look like.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but one of the best ways I could have taken better care of them was to be better at segmenting my list.

In this episode I talk through a specific strategy of utilizing hidden fields to help gather more information to be able to provide better value and to help in assisting with future sales.

The two platforms that I discuss heavily are Click Funnels and LeadPages.

089 - 5 Sites That Will Help You Find And Design Amazing Images

089 - 5 Sites That Will Help You Find And Design Amazing Images

When it comes to finding and designing pictures for either your blog or social media, it can be a real chore.

5 Free Design sites
5 Free Design sites

Even if you know design or photoshop, to me the process just takes too long to do.

Back in the day choosing a designing a picture would take hours. And I hated it.

I was spending my hours (opportunities) in life on designing a photo.... not cool.

Thankfully that has greatly changed within the last 6 months.

The Sites I Use

In today's episode I talk about 5 sites that will take a lot of headache out of your life especially if you struggle with photography and/or design.

The best part is that these sites are free or have a free version that you can use to download beautiful photos or add a touch of design to them that is quite amazing without having to know photoshop.

  • Stocksnap.io- This site pulls in images daily that you can use for free for all kinds of purposes including commercial. Additionally, you can create an account and favorite photos that you may want to use for other projects and have a place to gather them from.
  • Pexels.com- This is another free stock photography site that boasts 20 new high-quality photos every day. It has now become my other goto photography site and also has a "favorite" feature as well.
  • Canva.com - As I have already explained above, I do not know Photoshop. However, with Canva, you can edit images and add call-outs and other texts or layer images like you could in Photoshop, except you can do it for free. Kind of a selling point.
  • Relaythat.com - this is becoming one of my favorite site as it will create and size images for all sorts of social media platforms immediately with the click of one button. It is awesome. I highly, highly recommend you check them out.
  • Snappa.io - This s a design site that was made from Socksnap.io and like Canva it has some very cool editing features and ready to go sizes so that you can design your images knowing they will fit whatever platform you are wanting to design for. It is not my main image editor, but it might become one for those of you that are challenged with design like I am.

088 - How To Stop Spending Money Targeting People Not Within Your Target Audience

When it comes to your advertising (especially paid), many times you can run into issues where it seems like your efforts just never produce the results you are looking for.

Stop Spending Money Targeting The Wrong People
Stop Spending Money Targeting The Wrong People

Many people tend to get frustrated and move on to a different strategy, but I want to challenge you on this idea.

Personally, I have had experience that optimizing poor performing campaigns can end up finding a breakthrough that leads to great results.

In this episode, I go through the different aspects to check in your campaigns to see if you can improve the performance of your advertising.

Things To Check

  • Negative keywords or excluding audiences
  • Device platform - Mobile? Desktop? Tablet?
  • Time of the day
  • Demographics
    • Income
    • Family status
    • Gender
    • Kids
    • Geography

087 - Should You Be On All Of The Social Media Channels?

In this episode, I answer the question of "should I be on all of the social media channels?"

This is a great business question, as many people struggle with the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).

Should I be On All Of the Social Media Profiles #087
Should I be On All Of the Social Media Profiles #087

A great example of this is when the relaunch of Myspace happened.

I personally updated my profile, but in all reality, that was not what I should have been focused on at the time.

My target audience was not on MySpace and it ended up being more of a distraction to me similar to what Facebook can be like today. I ended up losing momentum in a critical time of my life.

Ultimately, the launch of MySpace was kind of a flop in the end anyways.

4 Tips To Keep You On The Right Platform

Maybe you can relate.

You may even have a similar story to share where you ended up feeling like a specific social media platform ended up being a waste.

However, my hope is that you can avoid my mistake and choose the right platforms to reach and engage with your target audience.

Here are four steps to help get you started on choosing where to invest your time and resources.

  1. Identify what platform your target audience is on by researching.
  2. Send out a survey to your audience to understand what platforms they are on.
  3. Identify the platform that you enjoy using.
  4. Is it easy to schedule content on that social media platform.

086 - New Podcast Format for 2016

In the past w months my wife and I have been processing a lot of things…

One of those is the fact that we are pregnant.

On top of that I have been getting over the shingles, which has caused our family to be separated from each other.

Then during the middle of all of that, we had a pipe burst, which has ushered in a bunch of complicated repairs that need to take place…..

The start Of Something New #086
The start Of Something New #086

It’s been a little crazy.

Moving Forward

However, through this process I have had some time to process how I want to move forward with 168 Opportunites.

The first thing that will be changing is the podcast structure.

I have come to realize that I need a way to be more consistent and yet provide value to others, therefore I will be producing my podcast in a question format.

This is a test, but it should allow me to plan and schedule my episodes better, which will benefit everyone in the end.

No doubt there will be kinks in the process, but I am determined to push through.

What Is Covered In This Episode

As part of my plan for producing content, I do believe that it would be very important to have an update on new strategies and tactics that have happened recently that could be very beneficial to small business owners in their marketing.

So to kick it all off, I want to take time to talk about two new developments that are worth mentioning.

  • Facebook Audience Optimization - This new feature will allow Facebook Pages to be able to target their posts better organically. In other words, you can now be more focused on the audience you want your Facebook posts to reach.
  • Facebook Lead Ads - Although Facebook Lead Ads are not new, an update was made so that business owners could use these ads targeting people on the Desktop and mobile devices. Additionally, marketers can add in a slide that helps explain to users what will happen when they sign up.

As your business grows and you continually need to figure out how to accept payments from your customers, do not for get to look at Square.

The Power Of Square
The Power Of Square

Whether you need to accept credit card payments from someone in person and/or also keep track of other purchases that have been made, Square is a great mobile tool to "literally" have in your back pocket.

To give you an idea of its capabilities, here are some great examples of how it could be used.

  • It could be used at a trade show for selling your products of services
  • It could be used for selling your products after you have a speaking presentation
  • You can use the service to generate invoices for custom projects
  • and many more senarios.

In this epidode, I go through what are the features and benefits of using Square are for your business (did I say it was FREE).

Personally, this tool/mobile cash register has been an amazing help as Alison  (my wife) and I get her business off of the ground.

It was the first way we processed orders at a sidewalk arts show to process people's orders and test to see if we even had a serivce that people wanted.

I highly recommend you take a look at ther service, even if you are primarily someone who sells things directly online, in case you ever run into a situation where you wil be selling your services in some sort of in person setting.

084 - Staying Positive and Quitting Trying

This is a very exciting episode for me as I am now halfway in my podcast recording to episode 168. This has been an amazing journey, but I have learned some lessons in the past 4 years that I need to work on.

Stay Positive Quit Trying
Stay Positive Quit Trying

Since this is a rather monumental episode (at least for me) I discuss how I have come to understand how I have struggled with the "trying" bug for the last 9 years of my life.

Maybe you know what I'm talking about.

You state that you will "try" to make that deadline or appointment, but in reality you have given yourself a way out.

Stating that you "will try" to do something allows you to internally provide yourself with an exit strategy.

You will often find yourself rationalizing skipping something because you said you would "try". After all you "did try".

However, at the end of the day it really is just a way for you to not commit to something.

This podcast episode discusses how you may need to quit "trying" and start actually "doing" instead.

Niching Down

Additionally, this episode marks me further niching down into helping couples with selling their products and spreading their message.

This has been something I have been working on figuring out ever since Podcast Movement this year and I am happy to say that it has been a culmination of things becoming clearer including the start of my wife's business Alison Aadahl Designs, which has already generated some good revenue for us. More on that to come.

After studying my listeners, I have realized that a majority of the ones I know are individuals that have a spouse and that are trying to figure out how to grow their brand.

And with my wife's business, it has even become more personal.

We are very excited for this as my wife and I will be able to work with each other in a new exciting way.
